IKN, East Kalimantan, June 10, 2024 – The first phase of the IKN Solar Power Plant, with a capacity of 10 MW, has begun operations to supply electricity to the 20 kV grid in East Kalimantan. A total of 21,600 solar panels have officially met the requirements for harvesting solar energy, as confirmed by the issuance of the Commissioning Certification (Sertifikat Laik Operasi/SLO) by PT PLN (Persero) on Monday, June 3, 2024.

Harjono, the President Director of PLN Nusantara Renewables, stated that this achievement is a strategic step to accelerate the supply of electrical energy in IKN. "The issuance of the SLO for the IKN Solar Power Plant indicates that this power plant has met the safety and technical standards set by PLN. In the future, it is expected that this installation will operate reliably and efficiently to meet the needs of the Central Government Core Area (Kawasan Inti Pusat Pemerintahan/KIPP) of IKN."

The IKN Solar Power Plant has already shown positive impacts on reducing carbon emissions in Indonesia. In a short time, this plant has managed to save 983.95 tons of coal from being used and avoid 1,170 tons of CO2 emissions, equivalent to planting 1,600 trees.

The construction of this project is divided into two phases: a 10 MW capacity built through the synergy of PLN Nusantara Power subsidiaries and a 40 MW capacity being built by PT Nusantara Sembcorp Solar Energi (NSSE), a joint venture between PLN Nusantara Renewables and SembCorp Utilities Pte. Ltd.

Located at a point with the highest irradiation level in the IKN area, this power plant is projected to produce 92.8 GWh of green energy. Situated 5 kilometers from the KIPP IKN, it will become the backbone of electricity in IKN, capable of reducing 104,864 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
