Power Purchase Agreement Ratified, PLTS Terapung Tembesi Prepares to Sell Green Electricity to PLN Batam

Power Purchase Agreement Ratified, PLTS Terapung Tembesi Prepares to Sell Green Electricity to PLN BatamPT PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP) and PT TBS Energi Utama have signed an Electricity Sale and Purchase Agreement with PT PLN Batam for the PLTS Terapung Tembesi Batam 35 MWac project, equivalent to 46 MWp. The agreement, inked on Monday, February 12, 2024, has a term of 25 years. According to the Regulation of the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), the government permits up to 5% of the reservoir area for the construction of floating solar power plants. Consequently, the second-largest floating PLTS in Indonesia will be erected on part of the Tembesi Reservoir, covering a land area of 864 hectares. PLTS Terapung Tembesi is estimated to require an investment of IDR 481 billion. This project will be developed by PLN NP and TBS through their affiliates, namely PT PLN Nusantara Renewables (PLN NR) with a 51% ownership share and PT Batam Tirta Surya with a 49% ownership share. The goal is to complete the construction of the New Renewable Energy (EBT) plant's first phase by the end of 2024, with overall completion expected in March 2025 to electrify industrial areas in Batam.Hartanto Wibowo, Director of Corporate Planning and Business Development at PT PLN (Persero), stated that PLTS Terapung Tembesi is anticipated to act as a catalyst in attracting foreign investment to Batam Island, thereby bolstering the local economy and sustainable energy infrastructure. Moreover, if other reservoirs such as Duriangkang Reservoir and Sei Harapan Reservoir are utilized, Batam could potentially generate 1 GW of EBT-based electricity. Ruly Firmansyah, Main Director of PLN NP, emphasized that this project serves as a prototype for developing EBT generators outside Java. "Following the successful inauguration of PLTS Terapung Cirata, we aspire to replicate similar projects in several other reservoirs throughout Indonesia," he remarked. To expedite the energy transition, Firmansyah stressed the urgent need for the development of EBT plants across the archipelago.

President Joko Widodo Inaugurates PLTS Terapung Cirata: The Largest Solar Power Plant in Southeast Asia

Purwakarta, Indonesia — PLTS Terapung Cirata, situated in Purwakarta Regency, West Java, was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on Thursday (09/11/2023). This solar power plant, boasting a capacity of 192 Megawatt peak (MWp), stands as one of Indonesia's National Strategic Projects in the realm of energy transition. The inauguration event, graced by Indonesian government officials, the PLN Group, and partner companies, also welcomed the Minister of Foreign Trade of the United Arab Emirates, Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi. He expressed hopes that this project would serve as a catalyst for closer bilateral relations between the two countries and stimulate economic growth for the surrounding community. Spanning across a reservoir area of 200 hectares, this power plant claims the title of the largest in Southeast Asia and ranks third globally. Its realization stems from collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), PLN, and Masdar – a renewable energy company from the United Arab Emirates. The introduction of this floating solar power plant in the Cirata area is poised to bolster the production capacity of the plant, currently standing at 1,000 MW. "In Cirata, we already have a hydroelectric power plant with a capacity of 1,000 MW, and now we are adding a floating solar power plant of 192 MWp. In the future, with full optimization, it could potentially add approximately 1,000 MWp," remarked President Joko Widodo. From an environmental perspective, PLTS Cirata is expected to contribute to the reduction of 214,000 tons of CO2 and generate 245 GWh of green energy annually. This significant stride brings Indonesia closer to achieving net-zero emissions.  President Joko Widodo expressed optimism regarding the future of new renewable energy (EBT) in Indonesia, encompassing wind power, geothermal, and hydropower. However, he acknowledged the challenges inherent in this energy transition. "The challenge lies in the fact that potential EBT locations are often distant from urban centers. To address this, we can develop solutions such as transmission lines, enabling potential EBT sources in Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi to meet the electricity demands of economic hubs," the head of state emphasized.

1,000 Mangrove Seeds from PT PLN Nusantara Renewables Ready to Absorb 29.3 Tons of CO2!

North Jakarta, Indonesia – Last Thursday (30/11), PT PLN Nusantara Renewables celebrated a milestone with the successful planting of 1,000 mangrove tree seedlings (Rhizopora Sp.) in the Angke Kapuk Mangrove Nature Tourism Park area in North Jakarta. This initiative is a testament to the company's commitment to environmental stewardship and corporate social responsibility (CSR). Collaborating with Jejakin, an organization providing a platform for calculating carbon footprints, PT PLN Nusantara Renewables assumes the role of provider and manager of these mangrove plants. Mangrove plants, also known as Mangroves, play a vital role in mitigating climate change. One of their most significant contributions is their ability to absorb carbon dioxide emissions caused by human activities.Their sequestration capacity, four times higher than other tree species, underscores their effectiveness in capturing and storing CO2 over extended periods. This significantly contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gases in both the atmosphere and oceans. Furthermore, mangrove plants also play a crucial role in maintaining coastal ecosystems. With their strong roots, mangrove trees reduce the impact of tides on the coastline, preventing the erosion of sand and mud from the beach into the sea. Additionally, these roots provide habitats for various species of fish, shrimp, crabs, and other animals, which serve as a source of livelihood for local fishermen. Over a lifespan of eight years, 1,000 mangrove plants are estimated to absorb 29.3 tons of CO2, equivalent to the emissions of a car traveling 461,907 km. To ensure the achievement of emission absorption targets, PT PLN Nusantara Renewables collaborates with Jejakin, which provides a dashboard to monitor levels of carbon absorption, water infiltration, soil quality, and air quality within the planting areas. This comprehensive approach ensures the enduring positive impact of mangrove trees for years to come.
